From Prud'hon's Justice and Divine Vengeance pursuing Crime to Warhol's "Electric Chairs" series via Nemesis by Valloton or Victor Hugo's drawing of "les pendus" [the hanged], the exhibition explores two centuries of history, from the first campaigns to put an end to the death penalty in 1791 to its abolition in France in 1981, raising a debate that has yet to be concluded : Can man judge the action of men?
