Under the Second Empire, Crinoline dresses shaped the era's characteristic silhouette: the bust is short, the high waist hidden a long and voluminous dress draped over a crinoline. Initially a simple slip, the crinoline becomes an armoured cage. During the same period, Paris confirmed its position as the capital of luxury with the expansion of its major shop shops and jewellery houses...
