New Year's in Paris
Paris is a town that knows how to celebrate. In fact, it's true that in a sense every day in Paris is something of a celebration.
New Year's Eve in Paris can take the form of family fun, a night out on the town, or one of the many wonderful events that Parisians and visitors use to ring in the New Year. We recommend looking for an apartment in Paris well in advance. But even if you don't, you may yet find something "last minute," and www.mykeystoparis.com has a wide selection of possibilities to explore.
If fine dining and sightseeing are your first love, it's an excellent time to book a Seine cruise. There are themes available for couples such as Romantic Night dinner cruises for two. Be sure to inquire in advance.
As in the rest of France, New Year's (also known as "St. Sylvestre") for many means flowing champagne, kisses on the cheek and joyful cries of "Bonne Annee!" It also may feature heated wine (much like warm cider) called "vin chaud," and apple cider itself, which has only a mild alcoholic content. Of course, non-alcoholic beverages are also plentiful in supply!
Some popular treats include chocolate and novelty candies that have wrappers that pop like firecrackers. Look for these in the many grocery stores in Paris. And of course, there are actual firecrackers, which are legal and enjoyed by many. You should be aware that part of the experience of being out on the town means fireworks, so use reasonable caution and try and get into the holiday spirit that fills the streets.
The Champs-Elysees is the equivalent of New York's Times Square, "the" place where people flock to have fun, although you may want to opt for a different evening if you dislike crowds. As always in Paris, there is the occasional danger of pickpockets, but the celebratory vibe is generally harmless. If you want a somewhat more sedate sendoff for the New Year, you may want to find a secluded spot somewhere in view of the Eiffel Tower, which hosts a dazzling display at midnight. The Pont d'Alma is a particularly wonderful place to stand, as it affords a great view and there are several cafés here offering both moderate and pricey menus to enjoy.
If you want a different sort of experience, the Sacre Coeur Cathedral in the Montmartre is a mix of peaceful, spiritual joy with a bit of revelry mixed in. As this is Paris' highest point, the view of the city here is spectacular (although nowhere near enough to see the Eiffel Tower). There are also many clubs and bars to enjoy here at a leisurely pace, but be aware there may be a bit of climbing on these ancient, hilltop streets. The Montmartre was featured in the movie "Amelie" and is, for many, one of Paris' most special places.
If you love live performance, this may be one of the best times of the year to book that visit to the Moulin Rouge cabaret or at the Lido. Located in the quirky, fading red-light district of Pigalle, the Lido is just south of the Montmartre.
Obviously restaurants all over Paris go "all out" on this special day and night, offering once-a-year menus from the economical to the luxurious. While there may be more formal dress codes at certain restaurants (be sure to check in advance, as well as take out an advance reservation when you can), feel free to hit the town otherwise in jeans and enjoy the casualness of the citywide good times.
One thing's for certain: you'll have fun during these celebrations, and find that just being in Paris means you have plenty to celebrate about. Bonne Annee!

Each year, the city is dressed up in some of the prettiest Christmas lights imaginable. The Avenue des Champs-Elysées is perhaps one of the most obvious and beautiful places to see Christmas ligjts, beginning as early as November 26th and generally lasting until midway through January.
Those drawn to the mystical Montmartre area of Paris will want to see the splendid lights at top of la Butte Montmartre, beginning around December first and lasting until the end of January. Combining this with a trip to the enchanting Sacré Coeur Cathedral is highly recommended. No matter what your religious bent, the energy of this place, Paris' highest point, is sure to instill a sense of peace in travelers from every corner of the globe.
Lovers of fashion will no doubt want to see the lights along the Avenue Montaigne, center of so many fashion shops, or the Place Vendôme, with its famous jewelry stores such as Cartier.
Needless to say, lovers of art will not be disappointed at the lights the Louvre, and the trendy Marais/Les Halles area will also have its share of charms. After all, this is one of Paris' most chic areas.
The bigger stores will also have their own displays, often featuring animated dolls and puppets, so be sure to pass by the huge displays at Galleries Lafayette, Printemps, Au Bon Marché and BHV (Bazar de l'Hotel de Ville).
Of course, what trip to Paris would be complete without shopping? From big stores to small markets, you can be sure Paris will accommodate you well in that regard.
Christmas masses abound, from thoughtful masses at the beautiful American Cathedral to spectacular masses such as the Eglise de la Madeleine on Dec. 24th and 25th.
Lovers of music will want to check out the Festival d'Art Sacré de la Ville de Paris, an annual festival dedicated to sacred and religious music, held throughout Paris in various locations, from St. Eustache and St. Roch, to the Museum of Judaic History and Art.
The Christmas Tree Fashion show (Sapins de Noël Fashion) is a fun and novel thing to do for the holidays, with dozens of Christmas trees designed by the world's oldest fashion school, ESMOD.
Popular events among Parisians include the Giant Ferris Wheel (La Grande Roule) at the Place de la Concorde beginning until September and lasting until January. Spectacular views of the city can be had from here!
There's also a giant Christmas tree in front of the Notre Dame, a Russian Christmas Circus, and much more.
Of course, this just scratches the surface of the many wonderful things to see and do in Paris during one of the calendar's most fun and joyous times of year. No matter what's at the top of your "to do" list in Paris during the holidays, an apartment in Paris from www.mykeystoparis.com puts you in the center of fun.

Porte de Versailles. A place to do business
After all, France is centrally located in Western Europe, meaning it's accessible to a variety of European and international companies. The glamour and fun of the city also make it a "natural" when it comes to hosting business meetings.
Fortunately, businesses on a budget (think "start-up"), or really any business that values the bottom line, have options. For many, an affordable Paris apartment rental from an established company like www.mykeystoParis.com means substantial savings over a hotel, and often represents a space and "lifestyle" upgrade, as well. More space. A private kitchen and dining area for meals at home. And more money to spend while in Paris.
In a sign of Paris' steady growth as a center for business planning and development, Paris has continued to create and expand several commerce and meeting centers. Perhaps one of the most impressive of these is the Paris Porte de Versailles exhibition center.
Located just south of central Paris, near Orly airport, Porte de Versailles has no less than eight separate exhibition halls, with nearly a quarter of a million square meters. It is easily accessible from central Paris by train and metro.
Porte de Versailles is France's top exhibition center and ranks seventh in all of Europe. Each year, more than 200 conventions and exhibitions find their way here, hosting more than 6 million people.
Just some of the exhibitions held at the Paris Porte de Versailles exhibition center are WSN Développement ("Who's Next"), the Nautical Trade Show of Paris ("Salon Nautique de Paris"), and many others.
There are many Paris apartments available near this important area. But fortunately, if you're coming to Paris for an event held at the convention space, you aren't limited to finding somewhere to live in the immediate area. Two factors work strongly in your favor: first, the rather small geographic spread of central Paris. And secondly, the fact that Paris' metro and train system is one of the most developed in the world.
Feel free to look for an apartment anywhere in central Paris, and particularly on the Left Bank, south of the Seine. With all there is to see and experience in Paris, you'll find the choice pays dividends beyond the monetary. (Although chances are good you'll be saving a little pocket money, too.)
With a little planning, you'll quickly find a route that can whisk you from your temporary home to and from the exhibition space. This will leave you time in the evening or morning to find a café for a little reading, some dinner, and quite possibly even a show. And no trip to Paris would be complete without some sightseeing, fine dining and a walk along the Seine.
Living in central Paris means the ability the see and do all that Paris has to offer. And in the end, living life to its fullest and bringing a smile to the table is always good business.
